Every year right after watching the Pool Party contest I say to myself “self you are going to this next year?” and then time slips away and I miss another year. I will tell you I like this whole contest, but the masters is by far my favorite part. Maybe it’s because I’m and older fellow and watching other older fellows ripping gets me stoked, or I just like that enough people are into it that Vans keeps it going. I grew up watching these guys skate and I became a big fan of Grosso the minute I saw him shave his eyebrows off in Speed Freaks. So to see him ripping gives me hope. Not a week goes by that I don’t text Dan giving him another reason on how cool Lance Mountain is. Because of Dan I have gotten to be around some of these guys, and let me tell you, every time I feel like a little kid. I don’t hardly talk, I just shut up and listen to the stories. I like knowing that these guys don’t just sit around and talk crap on the young kids. They get stoked seeing these guys ripping and taking skateboarding further. I hate when guys get older and get bitter. I never want to say the words “I used to skate.” I wish I could skate like I did 10 years ago, but I can’t. I will take what I can and be a happy man.
